Doinku-no-Ya: Ichi Liter no Namida eps 1-4 review

{synopsis>
15-year-old Ikeuchi Aya was an ordinary girl, the daughter of a family who works at a tofu shop, and a soon-to-be high schooler. However, lately, strange things have been happening to Aya. She has been falling down often and has been walking funny. Her mother, Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he tells Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration - a terrible disease where the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. However it does not affect the mind. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on?
This J-drama is actually based on the true story of Kitou Aya, who, like the Aya in the drama, kept a diary of her life and her struggles with spinocerebellar degeneration. She died in 1986, when she was only 25 years old. After her death, her mother compiled the diary into book form, and published it under the title Ichi Liter no Namida (1 Liter of Tears). It quickly became a bestseller and so, many years later, this drama was made.
Since the story sounded interesting and sad to doinkies, I decided to watch this, and so far I have been very impressed. The drama treats its heroine and her disease with much respect, and when Aya (played by Sawajiri Erika) ends up finding out about what disease she actually has (her mother and father keep it a secret at first), even though she is shocked (as anyone would be), rather than whine, angst, and moan for the entire show like Ikari Shinji, she resolves to do the best that she can even with a serious disease. doinkies was impressed by Aya’s strength and courage that she showed in this drama.
Aya is also somewhat in love with Asou Haruto (played by Nishikido Ryo, from some Johnny’s boy band, I think Arashi), the son of a doctor. He has a somewhat negative outlook on human life, and feels that he cannot control his life. I imagine that thanks to Aya, this will probably change, though. (Haruto is a fictional character made up for the drama.) Aya’s family also helps and supports her throughout her life with this disease.
Perhaps what makes this drama even more poignant is that in the ending credits, they show pictures of the real Kitou Aya while the ending theme plays. Seeing the pictures of the real girl, with a bright smile on her face even though most of her abilities have been taken from her, made me want to weep, and appreciate doinkies’ own life.
The acting is also very good, especially Sawajiri Erika’s role as Aya. Since she was a gravure idol (an idol who basically does somewhat ecchi photos in bikinis), I wasn’t really expecting her acting to be anything special, but she really brings a lot of feeling to her performance. All the other actors are also good.
To sum up, this is a series that doinkies highly recommends. But have a lot of Kleenex with you, because there are many tear-jerking moments. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of this series as it airs.

I love Sawajiri Erika acting…the character is so live and real…her acting like her have that dease
She will be the best actrees eventough she only girl 19th.I hope can see more her acting. Erika-chan You’re my new Idol…

I just finish watchin it… omg it is a tear dropper! beyond that, at first i watched it because my friend told me the girl Erika Sawjiri is very cute (and yes she is!) but when i got deeper into the series, it became more clear and i felt that watching this series has given me alot of courage and strength to go onto life….
highly recommended!

I finished all the espisodes and they were all really great! But it was such a sad story! But everyone in that movie was really great at acting!!! My favorite is Haruto! ahhh He’s so cute and nice! Have any of you guys watched Hana Yori Dango? That is way good!

Hi, I’m Nandya from Indonesia. I knew this tv drama from my friend. First, i thought it would be a little creepy coz my friend said that this drama is based on a true story about a girl who has passed away. But after i watched it, i can feel that Aya’s always give us her spirit and courage. It’s like she’s teaching us not to give up until your last breath. I’m very touched. The first time I done watching this, I’ve spent probably like a half roll of tissue, and two handkerchiefs that’s wet because of my tears. Now I start to influence everyone I know to watch this drama, so that everybody will know about Aya. Her courage, her brave, her spirit, her never-give-up attitude, her life, her strugglle against the disease. I don’t know why this disease exists and incurable. But I hope the Japanese doctors have found the resolution for this disease. And for the people who suffer from it, I wish you all can be like Aya, tough and still enjoy your precious life. Maybe this is my extra lesson of the 1st drama and the movie that make me appreciate my life VERY｡｡much..&..deep in my heart I have been consistently crying (even daydreaming…)In my appearance i may not seems to cry out but still to my peers and people who i never get to know wish that we could understand each other in terms of taking care own health and ‘never give up’…anyway just to say hello to the world XD!

i so into this jdrama..i mean ichi liter do namida….wow…erika acted so very good…i mean thumbs up for her…if there is a nomination..i will surely vote for her…just curious…is there any drama which erika also play???i wanna watch it too….erm…anyway..this drama is a lesson to all people that simply wana suicide if there is any problem…you’ll can’t give up as you have so many things to do…and take aya for example…she didn’t give up on her life too…eventhough it’s hard for her to live on…..she tried..so..take a lesson from it…sayonara…

I think that Ryo is doing his part in ichi liter do namida very good but when i saw the jdrama i couldn´t hold my tears back when I saw the sikness on Erikas roll becaus it was so painfull to see her illness and the way Ryo´s roll Asou-kun was trying to help her was so painfull to see to because he new that he was inlove with her…It is the best jdrama I have seen in my life. Erika was playing her roll very good too and the best part with her roll was that she never gave up her life she was trying to liv it normarly even if she nwe she was going to die some day….Sayonara

just watch it recently and to sum it all “WOW”…, what a series..I learned alot of things from Ayanee..and i know there will be a lot of people who will be enlightened by her story,,. my fav. line “I will definitely wont run away..”
