Uknighted Manganime Life is too short to watch bad anime

Fumihiko is meant to be meeting up with a girl he likes from his office, to
see a movie. However she stands him up. He is about to throw the tickets into
the rubbish when Aka comes up behind him and tells him he shouldn’t waste the
tickets. She convinces him to watch the movie with her. Afterwards, they go for
dinner and walk home together, as they live in the same neighborhood.

Fumihiko is woken up in the middle of the night by a massive fire burning
down an apartment building a block away. He gets up and goes to have a look at
what is happening  He sees Aka sitting in the run clutching a blanket, and
realises she has escaped from the fire and it is her building that is burning.

He offers her to stay at his place for the night. Aka accepts and later she’s
preparing for sleeping, and suddenly breaks down in tears, realizing she has
lost everything in her apartment. Fumihiko moves to comfort her and puts his arm
around her, then they start kissing and progress from there. As Fumihiko is
unbuttoning Aka’s shirt, Aka realizes they haven’t been introduced, so they swap
names before continuing….

This is certainly a complete break from the standard romance fare, and that
in itself is a commendable aspect. Its about time that people realized that
spending 26 episodes screwing around with the main couple’s feelings and then
the last episode they finally get together- just doesn’t cut it anymore.

I enjoyed this episode alot, particularly Aka’s character. There isn’t a
whole lot of character building you can do in a 12min episode, but we do get a
feeling for what Aka is about. Fumihiko is more or less a prop at this point,
but hopefully future episodes will make him more interesting. I predict that his
job situation will be the main part of his character development.

What was particularly distasteful for me was the situation at the end. I
think it’s pretty disgusting to take advantage of the situation (a stranger is
devastated by their house and all their belongings going up in flame and looking
for the first comfort she can find). Regardless of whether Aka was willing or
not, she was in a state of emotional turmoil and Fumihiko should have thought of
that and not used the situation to have sex with her.

Anyway, I’m still looking forward to the rest of the series. I wonder if
there will be any consequences from their  ill-advised sexual encounter,
and how their relationship will progress. It’s sad that this series is a 12min
episode show because this is one of the few series that bucks plot cliché and
would be worth seeing more off.

The OP is enjoyable and i listened to it several times. The character design (for Aka at least) is cute and the animation quality is good when these two are on screen. The background animation and general scenes are of appaling quality though. Particularly the resturant, the fire and the crowd scenes were horrible to look at for more then a few seconds. It seems like this is a budget anime, maybe because they’re not following the crappy (but safe) Conflicted Shonen Romance [TM] ?

I only tried Lunar’s version for this, but they releaced a very nice wide screen 60mb MKV rip. Aside from the top quality raw, I really liked the splash screen and the kareoke and subtitles were good. The only critism i have is that they used hard subs (yet they were using MKV). Also Kyubil said he didnt like the way they showed half a line, and then the other half, in some places.
