Wow, that was a totally wonderful experiance, and one well worth waiting more then a year for.
I’m not going to write a full blog post now, i might get around to that later. What i want to comment on atm is the ending, hence the spoiler warning. My proper blog post (if i make one) will be spoilerless.
So, Edward goes back to the real world to destroy the gate, Al smuggles aboard and they are stuck forever on the other side.
WTF!!!
As im watching, this my heart is going “WINRY!!!!”

How could Edward leave Winry !!! After so long, it finally looks like they’re going to be reunited, there are hints of their feelings, and it looks like a real ship is possible, only to be torn away at the last minute by the depressed romanticless pessimistics of writers!
And what about the all the other characters we love in the Shambella universe? We’ll never know if Hawkeye and the Flame Alchemist hook up! 
No more will Al and Ed be alchemists ! Oh, this is so unfair
They could have so easily ended it so that they stayed in Shambella and the gates got destroyed anyway!
If they had just sent the ship back, I’m sure whoever was left in charge there would have taken one look at all the dead bodies, the dying deformed body of their once beautiful leader, and all the other horrible stuff, and destroyed it themselves !! After all, the experiment was a failure! It didnt take Al and Ed to go back to prove that!
Anyway, despite my utter disapointment with the lack of Winry + Ed, the movie was still freaking awesome and i totally loved every minute of it (right up to the end).
*note, Edward/Elric names edited due to complaints
Now, i just need to wait around for the OVA…

I actually saw the movie about a year ago….It wasnt shocking for me I kinda liked it. Winry is HOT…but ed acts stupid..U know what i mean? He should of went for her but its the plot that u have to consern, its not supposed to happen so it didnt .. thats all.

How come it’s always like this? the hot anime boy has no clue about the feelings the pretty anime girl has for him.Their are lots of tention and cute moments in the show but they don’t end up together anyways.Because either the anime boy leaves or somthing disapointing like that.I am still waiting for Sasuke too come back! wahh (I know not all anime shows are like this,but mostly all the Best ones are like that so sad!)

I am much disappointed about the film.Well actually the film was good but… Winry was left alone.
How could this happen to her.There were about to lead a HAPPY family but…!But when i read about this news. I calmed down a bit.Oh ya!well the news is that in ‘KIDS’ova they showed Edward’s grandchild and child had a resemblance of WINRY.Are you thinking what I am thinking?Well that’s cooll….I wish that would happen!Well WINRY is the best!

the anime was great and the movie was a good ending, not the happy everything back to normal ending you get in most movies. It would have been nice if they went back but it would have been predictable and uninteresting. I secretly hope that the find a way back but i think all that really matters is they are ‘whole’ and together again. As for Winry I think she understands, having been separated from Ed probably gave her time to come to terms with the fact that she may never see him again. She said it herself that this time it was goodbye.

omg!!! i hated the fact that winry was left alone! i was completely out of it after that. also, i HATE noah, or whatever the gypsie freak is (i like gypsies, but not her) i am glad they hava the chibi party with winry and ed toghther again *grumbles about the fact that ed and winry arnt really together again* maybe the creators will do some sweet aftertake where winry and ed can be together again (*squeals at the idea*)

Hm. I think I’m supporting the FMA manga more then - it’s not through yet and there’s more of a chance that Ed and Winry can be together. Just saying. It’s pretty sad that both Elric brothers are on the other side with no way of getting back. It made me hurt a bit for Winry. She and Ed kind of liked each other as more than friends, I think, but both of them were such idiots not to pursue a relationship, or to even realize one liked the other.

Where do you get all these FMA manga from I want to read/ watch so unfair and I don’t live anywhere near a shop which sells manga books I mean O M G !!!!How could I possibly live with that when I lurve manga soooooooo much and oh yeah I can’t believe that ed and winrey aren’t together they look so cute together( saw this on youtube by the way)especially when he goes through like those doors the ones with the eye on the front and ed kinda like goes through this portal thingy then lands basically in front of winrey who hugs him (aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh)which is great as they really suite each other !!!

Wowaas…, I didn’t even think of getting the manga! I can’t believe I’ve watched all 52 episodes and the movie but haven’t had an opportunity to get my hands on the manga!, anyone know where I can get it?

omg! so not fair that ed doesnt ed up with winry. totally wrong!! i mean, i’ve seen most of the eps on youtube and stuff, and i’m watching the movie when ever i can but it was so sad. at least they have thier bodies right? i actually think ed looks better with the automail..but thats just me. you can get mangas at any bookstore. try walden books or barnes and nobles if you guys have those stores around you. should be a section just for anime/mangas.

I’m sorry, I just found this via Google while trying to search for the ending to the movie. Almost no reviewer writes it in, but I just had to know, it was killing me.
(I haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet.)
However, you mentioned an OVA, and provided a link. But the link goes nowhere.

Well actually Al could have performed his Soul transmution thing and even if it wouldn’t last for long. It would have been enough time to destroy the gate on the other side. So Ed and Al could have stayed in Shamballa and be together with the lonley Winry.

I am very happy Al and Ed are finally together, but let’s not forget that Winry lost those she loved like brothers (and possibly one lover)! Why didn’t she end up on the other side of the gate with the others? It seems like a right place for her since she likes mechanics so much!
