Nana 2-6 (Second Look)
Posted by Willuknight
My first look at NANA episode 1 was pretty harsh, and ever since episode 2, i’ve been waiting for a chance to write up another post taking back anything i said that was negative about this series.
It’s important to realise that the first 6 episodes of NANA are the introduction to the series. The first episode starts in present time. The next 4 episode are flashbacks which follow both Nana and Hachi, from their high school days, to the ‘present’, where they’ve just moved to Tokyo. The 6th episode is a mixture of new footage, and reused footage, and is set at the same time as the 1st episode. It’s not just a reprise though. The 6th episode follows the same events of the first, yet focuses on and brings to life different events.
As of the 6th episode, NANA is right at the very top of my list (before it was about 3rd) of anime this month. Other contenders are Ouran High School and Zegapain, but i will write a post about that some other time.
I was REALLY impressed with Nana’s voice actress in episode 5. She practically narates that entire episode and it is a surperb preformance of voice acting. One thing that annoys me in anime is that a lot of female VA’s only seem to be able to preform 2 emotions, normal and whiney. Nana’s VA manages a full range, and i was really impressed with her during this episode.
I’m also loving Hachi’s VA as well. It’s SUPER KAWAII, and really fits the character well. In addition, all of the other characters are also sounding natural.
It’s only been about 4 months since i discovered the NANA manga (and read all that was out in about one week), so not really long enough to forget the story. Usually i tend to lose interest in an anime, if i’ve already read past the story point with the manga - Mainly because i know it all. I’m only up to episode 6, but I haven’t been feeling like that at all with NANA. Every episode is a delight to watch, and rediscover what i loved about the manga so much.
I LOVE THIS SHOW ![]()

Yes, it’s nice to hear a VA who is so different from the average female seiyuu. I am not that fond of Hachi’s voice, it’s a bit too kawaii and childishly dramtic at times.
The anime is very interesting but I was quite angry that episode six was something of a recap of episode one. Then I watched episode seven which totally made up for the previous one.
